We Remember From Mick

by Donna Fuller on 02/27/20

From Mick Hughes

On 28 February 1967, a small relief force from the Second Battalion Third Marines was formed at Camp JJ Carroll to assist Marines who were engaged in a battle against overwhelming numbers of the NVA.
The small 2/3 relief force was led by Lieutenant Colonel Victor Ohanesian and Sergeant Major Wayne N. Hayes.  Both were mortally wounded on that day.  Private First Class James Anderson Jr., "F" Company, would be awarded the Medal of Honor (posthumously) for his sacrifice.  Pfc. Anderson was the first African American U.S. Marine to receive the M.o.H.
We remember and pray for Lt. Col. Ohanesian, Sgt. Major Hayes, Pfc. Anderson and all the Marines who did not walk off the battlefield on 28 February.  They will always be remembered and honored by the Marines they proudly and dutifully served. Let us also remember the families of these men, with the hope that they have found the means to help them cope with the tremendous loss of their beloved Marines.
Rest in peace brothers.  Semper Fidelis.

From Mick:

Colonel Morris,
Ron,  Please post to 2/3 V.V.A. website.  Thanks much.

Link to 90 second video is good to open.

The dedication of March 29 for recognition of U.S. Veterans of the Vietnam War is appreciated.
I am grateful for Secretary Wilkie's announcement.  Would have been even more grateful  if he knew how many names are on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in D.C.  "More than 58,000" shows little effort to research the number, which has changed over the years.

Below is SECRETARY Wilkie's Public Service Announcement for this year.

Air Show from Mick

by Donna Fuller on 02/11/20

From Mick

Dear Family and Friends,
The Annual Air Show @ Jones Beach, Long Island, NY will take place on 23 and 24 May 2020, 1000-1500.
The U.S.N. Blue Angels (F-18 Super Hornets) usually appear towards the end of the show sometime after 1330.
Advise however you get there early for best viewing and vehicle parking.  The show epicenter is the J.B. Water Tower which looks like an obelisk.  The water tower can be seen, weather permitting, from miles away and can't be confused with any other man-made features.
Best viewing by boat is from the ocean outside the U.S.C.G. exclusion zone OR from Zachs Bay.  Get to gentle waters of the bay early if you want a decent spot with some room to anchor properly.
Be prepared to deal with crowds.
Insider tip:  PRACTICE air show will take place on Friday, 22 May 2020, 1000-1500.  Just as good as "the" show with 80% less people, cars and boats.
My tentative plan is to attend on Friday and Saturday.  Maybe boat or maybe car.
For more information see bethpageairshow.com or google Jones Beach Air Show 2020.
Enjoy the show while remembering and praying for Members of the Armed Forces who sacrificed their lives for the Freedoms we enjoy today.
God Bless America!
