From Mick About reunion

From Mick:
Good morning Marines,  Canceling the 2/3 V.V.A. Annual Reunion in St. Louis, September 2020 is the right thing to do.  I'll be brief with just a few comments on what comes next.  I'm stressing that the following are my OPINIONS; I'm not trying to dictate anything
1.  The official social media site of 2/3 V.V.A. is 233vietnameraassociation.homestead.com.  The web address was created BEFORE our Association agreed that we would be called 2/3 and NOT 2/3/3.  We also agreed that the word "era" would not appear in the official name of our Association.  Experts tell me it's a huge task to change our web address to more accurately describe the official name of our Association.
2.  We agreed that our middle of the USA  reunion would be St. Louis in 2020.  I'm not totally happy with St. Louis, but I would go there because that's what the Membership wanted.  In my mind, the ethical thing to do in 2021 would be to hold our convention in St. Louis.  A lot of work has been done by the Association, the Executive Board and Armed Forces Reunions to put a package together for St. Louis.  Don't let all that work go for naught.  Don't create a situation that would require an additional workload in choosing a site other than St. Louis for 2021.  The choice made at an Annual Membership Meeting should not be overruled by Members after the fact and for no good reason.
3.  We choose reunion sites at our Annual Membership Meeting.  These are difficult times and the Executive Board should be trusted to do what's right by our By-Laws and our Marines.  Bend the By-Laws when REQUIRED.  Don't totally disregard them or what they stand for.
4.  Our rotating, long term reunion schedule was created so that our Marines, spread across the country (and the globe) would have an opportunity to attend a reunion that could be occasionally close to their homes.  If not St. Louis, the 2021  reunion should be middle of the country at least.
5.  We have as a group decided that Hawaii will be considered the western part of the USA.  As such, it can be nominated as a venue for 2022 when it's the west's turn.  If I remember correctly, the 2021 reunion site should have been decided at the 2019 Membership Meeting.  Armed Forces Reunions screwed up.  It's not only the Wuhan that's put us behind the eight ball.

I'll stress again that these are my OPINIONS.  The information above may be posted on the official 2/3 V.V.A web site message board.  I pray that you and our 2/3 Marines stay well and healthy.  Semper Fidelis.
