Memorial Day from Mick

by Donna Fuller on 05/27/21

From Mick Hughes
This last week I have heard on TV and radio,----" come on out to the festivities and celebration of MEMORIAL DAY.' .  What a bunch of crap.  Yep , in many places it has become a big celebration , enterprise ,---$$$ money maker,--with hot air balloon rides and carnival atmosphere.   Yes, --to most , the real meaning of this day has been completely lost.  To be humble and show respect and being grateful is no longer part of many lives.   What a shame!!!   When I think of my friends that never returned to take part in the American Dream---, this day has become the worst day of the year for me.  I always remember, James Huff, Dave Wikander, Roy Fryman, Art Tomacheck, Ken Hall, Bill Griffith,Judd Spainhour, JJ Carroll, Bill Gendabean, Lenard Taglever.  Also,  those that returned and later passed as a result of conditions related to the war, -- Walt Webb, Eddie Holton, and Jimmy Lynn, and many others.   My friends,---this weekend do not participate in activities that do not bring the proper respect due to those that made the ultimate sacrifice.   Please forward to all on your contact list.     Semper    Fi    Charlie      Additionally, ---do not forget about the proper flag protocol on MEMORIAL DAY !!!

I would throw in, please refrain (at all times) from using anything that looks like an American Flag for a shirt, skull cap, bathing suit, towel, scarf, tee shirt, paper plate, napkin, tablecloth, face mask, etc.
Flying a flag from a staff?  Don't let it touch anything except the staff and halyard.
Placing a flag?  Then you're responsible for its care forever.  See United States Code, Title 4.
Remember all our American Armed Forces Heroes who gave their lives so we can live in Freedom.  mh

Bit of History

by Donna Fuller on 05/07/21

From Mick Hughes:

On 7 May 1945, in Reims, France, Generaloberst Alfred Jodl surrenders both the Eastern and Western Armies of Germany.  The Nazis are defeated.  After being convicted of war crimes, he is executed in 1946.

Interesting bot of history

by Donna Fuller on 04/18/21

From:  Mick:

19 April 1775.  About 70 armed "colonists" faced off with the British Military in Lexington, MA.   The un-ordered "shot heard round the world" was followed by more gunfire.  8 "colonists" died and 10 were wounded.  In coming years, the "colonists" would throw off the yoke of an oppressive English government and become "Americans".  "AMERICANS!"

Reunion info READ!!!

by Donna Fuller on 03/25/21

From John Fuller  Our President:

Second Battalion, Third Marines

Vietnam Veterans Association

                       25 March 2021

My brother Marines,

Hello from the Natural Sate. I hope this message finds all of you in fine spirits and good health.

Our reunion is right around the corner and I feel now is the time for the membership to decide individually who wants to go ahead with the reunion scheduled in St. Louis. I ask each of you to contact your company representative with your decision by next Wednesday, 31 March 2021. This way, we can tally up the ayes and the nays and the decision will be yours, not the officers and company representatives.

This reunion is your annual gathering to rekindle the friendship that was formed over 54 years ago, and I know each of you look forward to this occasion with great anticipation and eagerness. Our type of friendship will never be understood by anyone who has not experienced the bonding of men under fire, not even our fellow Marines that supported us in the rear.

When making you’re your decision, keep in mind we will not have the same liberties as our previous reunions and the hotel with have protocols in place to deal with the COVID problem. Our activities are still not firm, but I will continue to press the hotel and our reunion organizers for a firm answer. I look forward to your decision.

Semper Fi
