More info from Mick

by Donna Fuller on 03/01/18

On 28 February 1967, elements of 2/3 and other USMC units fought a ferocious battle in dense jungle northwest of Cam Lo in RVN.  27 Marines and 1 Navy Corpsman lost their lives.
Among them was Medal of Honor recipient Pfc. James Anderson, F/2/3 from Compton, CA.  Born on 22 January 1947, he was the first African-American Marine to receive the Medal of Honor.
Fatally wounded on 28 Feb. was the Battalion Commander of 2/3, Lt. Colonel Victor Ohanesian (b.16 Sept 1926).  The Colonel succummed to his injuries on 1 March 1967.
We remember our 2/3 Marines who made the ultimate sacrifice.  They and their families to this day remain in our prayers.  Rest in Peace Brothers.  Semper Fidelis.

More info ON Sgt. Major Hayes

by Donna Fuller on 03/01/18

Sgt. Major Hayes is the father of Deborah Mongiovi.  She and husband, Carl (US Army, Vietnam) have attended our reunions for about 4 years.  Sgt. Major (2/3) was killed on 2/28/67.  Lt. Col. Ohanesian (2/3 C.O.) was wounded in the same mortar attack, probably by the same round.   The Colonel died of wounds on 3/1/67.    Semper Fidelis.
