by Donna Fuller on 05/16/20

I post this with great regret!  Poness

From Mick!
RON, YOU ARE CLEARED TO POST THE FOLLOWING TO THE MESSAGE BOARD OF 2/3 V.V.A.

The following information is tentative as I cannot verify at this time.  Maybe some 2/3 VVA Marines can verify the following.
It is with regret that announcement is made of the death of Marine Bobby "Hilbilly" Croft on 13 May 2020.  Bobby served in F/2/3 and was a member of the 2/3 Vietnam Veterans Association.
A family only funeral service was held on 15 May.
Friends of Hilbilly are trying to put together a Memorial Service. Date, time and place to be determined.
For the sake of privacy, no personal information such as n.o.k., phone numbers or addresses will be posted here.
Contact me directly and if you pass scrutiny, I will give you more information.  The info that I have will also be passed along to the President, V.P. and Treasurer of 2/3 VVA.

Reunion cancelled /next year READ!!

                                                Vietnam Veterans Association

                                                                                                                                         18 April 2020

Marines,

With the Coronavirus pandemic reaching every corner of our country and the uncertainty of how to contain this threat, we as representatives for the association decided it was in the best interest of all members if we were to hold a telephone conference to decide the fate of our 2/3 V. V. A. Annual Reunion St. Louis 2020.

Telephone conference was held on April 17 with all elected officers and company representatives. All were present except for Bravo 1/12.

On April 8 Treasurer Art Ferguson initiated an email polling of members to determine if the Membership wanted to push ahead at this time with planning for St. Louis 2020 or if the Reunion should be cancelled. Members voted 50-4 to cancel St. Louis for 2020. All participants of the telephone conference unanimously agreed to cancel St. Louis 2020.

St. Louis 2020 was chosen to be our Reunion venue, as per the By-Laws of the Association. Circumstances dictate that St. Louis 2020 be cancelled. In keeping with the spirit of the By-Laws, our 2021 Reunion should be in St. Louis. The work to have a St. Louis Reunion has been done by your 2/3 V. V. A. Association, your elected officers, and Armed Forces Reunions.

I have asked Art Ferguson to conduct a poll as to where in the middle of the USA the 2021 Reunion should be held. This way, we can get a fresh look at St. Louis 2021 as the vote took place in 2018.

I know many members, spouses and friends will be disappointed by our decision to cancel this year’s reunion, but it was done primarily out of concern for the welfare of our members. We can not charge ahead like we did in our youth under different circumstances. We, as responsible representatives, are entrusted to make safe and sound decisions for the membership, and I feel we did that professionally and compassionately.

From Mick About reunion

by Donna Fuller on 04/18/20

From Mick:
Good morning Marines,  Canceling the 2/3 V.V.A. Annual Reunion in St. Louis, September 2020 is the right thing to do.  I'll be brief with just a few comments on what comes next.  I'm stressing that the following are my OPINIONS; I'm not trying to dictate anything
1.  The official social media site of 2/3 V.V.A. is 233vietnameraassociation.homestead.com.  The web address was created BEFORE our Association agreed that we would be called 2/3 and NOT 2/3/3.  We also agreed that the word "era" would not appear in the official name of our Association.  Experts tell me it's a huge task to change our web address to more accurately describe the official name of our Association.
2.  We agreed that our middle of the USA  reunion would be St. Louis in 2020.  I'm not totally happy with St. Louis, but I would go there because that's what the Membership wanted.  In my mind, the ethical thing to do in 2021 would be to hold our convention in St. Louis.  A lot of work has been done by the Association, the Executive Board and Armed Forces Reunions to put a package together for St. Louis.  Don't let all that work go for naught.  Don't create a situation that would require an additional workload in choosing a site other than St. Louis for 2021.  The choice made at an Annual Membership Meeting should not be overruled by Members after the fact and for no good reason.
3.  We choose reunion sites at our Annual Membership Meeting.  These are difficult times and the Executive Board should be trusted to do what's right by our By-Laws and our Marines.  Bend the By-Laws when REQUIRED.  Don't totally disregard them or what they stand for.
4.  Our rotating, long term reunion schedule was created so that our Marines, spread across the country (and the globe) would have an opportunity to attend a reunion that could be occasionally close to their homes.  If not St. Louis, the 2021  reunion should be middle of the country at least.
5.  We have as a group decided that Hawaii will be considered the western part of the USA.  As such, it can be nominated as a venue for 2022 when it's the west's turn.  If I remember correctly, the 2021 reunion site should have been decided at the 2019 Membership Meeting.  Armed Forces Reunions screwed up.  It's not only the Wuhan that's put us behind the eight ball.

I'll stress again that these are my OPINIONS.  The information above may be posted on the official 2/3 V.V.A web site message board.  I pray that you and our 2/3 Marines stay well and healthy.  Semper Fidelis.
